clicky poll: how much will you have spent on pro photos by 1 yr

We haven't done any pro photos yet and will be doing family/1st birthday ones.  DH thinks we're spending way too much so I wanted to show him what other's have done.  Feel free to elaborate - like how often you did photos and what each of the sessions cost.  Oh and if you LO is only 6 months put a guess-timate of how much you will spend for the 1st year.[Poll]

ditto. But we'll probably do one photo shoot with picture people when he's one I think.

  • I had a friend of ours take DD's 3 month photos and she will take her 9 month photos because we are planning on doing a family photo for Christmas at that time.  But she does not charge us anything...what a blessing!!!  Otherwise, I bought a nice camera specifically to take DD's milestone photos because it was much, much cheaper.  I didn't feel comfortable asking my friend to do all of them because she is super busy with all the sittings she actually gets paid for.

  • I say pay the big bucks or do them yourself. We did a studio shoot once and the pictures sucked. They completely lacked energy and character.

This is why we haven't done any pro photos yet.  I wanted to save and just do one year combined with family photos.  I love the photographer and he's worth every penny in my eyes.  DH just doesn't see it the same way.

  • I picked the first option, but we don't take them ourselves...we have a few photographer friends that will do them for free for us.

  • We get them done every 3 months and she charges $150/session and we pay for our own printing and usually spend around $60-100 depending on how much we order.
  • We spent $270--$100 sitting fee plus $170 for prints!!! We got one free set of 4x6 proofs. Additional 4x6s were $10 and 5x7s were $20 so it added up really fast. More expensive than I had realized.

We will probably not do pro-pics again until DD turns one in January.

  • We looked into it but then decided that it's a colossal waste of money given that we have a nice camera and the ability to click a button. I know you might not get the brilliant composition you'd get with a professional photographer, but they work out well enough. The one in my siggy is from my iPhone and it's perfectly fine.
  • We have taken pics at 3 and 6 months so far.  The first set of pics were almost $200, the second set we only paid $50 since we got a coupon.

We are trying to stay in that $50-$100 for his first bday pics since we are taking Family pics at xmas (he will be 8 months old)

  • We only did the newborn hospital pics and her daycare had pics in July. They are doing them again in November next week. I bought the CD of the newborn pics (~$100) and then bought the smallest daycare package (about $25)

The rest I have taken myself and then crop them/adjust color, etc.
