Toddler flu shot

I made an appt for Friday for DD to have her flu shot.

I rememebr asking on here before if it was the 'inhalable' one - this is definitely a shot.  But DH went to a flu shot specialist (b/c he had a bad reaction last year) and his Dr said the inhalable one is more effective in little kids.  What did you guys have for your kids?

The Drs office also asked if this is her first flu shot (yes it is) - how does that impact it?

One more question... is it still a shot that goes in the leg?  (She's 2.5).  I'm only wondering because I have to go there on my own with both kids and I'm kind of wondering about the logistics of restraining her while the baby is crying and so on... not going to be fun.

  • I'm pretty sure the mist is usually for 3+ and yes, it is more effective but I don't think by so much that you should worry about the shot not being sufficient.

  • I am trying to remember back to last year when I read about this.  I believe the mist is a live vaccine and kids can actually be contagious for a day or so with it.  So you wouldn't want it with an infant in the house!!  Don't quote me on that though.

As for how to handle two, good luck.  I had to take Tyler with me last week when I took Brianna to the doctor.  I took crayons and a coloring book, Tyler DRAW on the chair in the room while Bri was being examined!
