too late for the seahorse

so, i'm talking to my friend and i tell her that i'm still rocking dd too sleep...well mostly to sleep. She's drowsy when i put her down. Anyway, my friend was like "huge mistake! you'll have to rock her forever". This is true, when she wakes up at 3 or 4, we have to rock her before she'll calm down and get sleepy again. My friend suggested I get her a bed toy so that she can play with it until she falls asleep. So, my question is. Is it too late for that seahorse thing??? I could get it and then perhaps try it out.

Not so much for the cry it out, do you think the toys will work?

  • Come on people...help a girl out. I know this isn't a "conventional" method but i remember people on 0-6 talking about this seahorse. If this doesn't work i think i'm going ferber.

  • DS loved the Seahorse when he was a newborn, weird the last few times I've played it for him even holding him he freaked out.

I think you LO is going to cry if she's usually rocked not not used to soothing herself, toy or not.

I bought the crib aquariam (spelling?) for DS, it's taken a few weeks, but he's getting used it and starting to let himself watch it get distracted for a bit. It plays longer then the seahorse and there's a romote control so you can reset it without LO seeing you.

What I would do is put DD in her crib with whatever toy you choose during the day while you are in the room with her, like putting laundry away or other type of cleaning so she can get used it. Little by little DS started to get used to it and I was able to leave him in the crib and run downstairs to do laundry.

CIO is very  hard, we just started doing it, DS STTN for a month and then it took two nights and we got back into some bad habits. We started the Ferber Sleep Solution last night. Put LO down awake, CIO for like 10 min, go in rub her check and back, calm and then leave again, keep adding a few minutes in between going in. The next night start with 15 minutes and so forth. I've done it twice, last night and a nap today, so far so good.

    GL!

    Great minds think alike!

  • I'm not sure.  DS has a small stuffed animal in his crib, but I don't know if he plays with it when he wakes in the middle of the night.  I don't usually go into his room when I hear him waking in the middle of the night b/c when I do, it takes him longer to fall back to sleep.

  • Not too late for the seahorse! She's still a big hit at our house.

  • It still works for DD when she wakes up in the middle of the night.  I give her a pacifer and play the seahorse.  She usually stares at it until she falls asleep.  I've been using it since she was 3 weeks old, so it could be just from the routine.  It only works when she is drowsy but awake.
  • We've had the seahorse since LO was born and now all she wants to do with it is eat it and play with it...not a lovey for us! :)
