TTC After a Loss

Friend problem

My best friend is great with one exception her daughter. She is spoiled and acts terrible in public and private. My friend doesn't see this or doesn't care about it. Not only is the kid bad but my friend gets upset if another adult doesn't speak to her kid in the correct way or if someone ask her not to do something (usually something she shouldn't be doing in the first place). The hard part is my friend thinks people should want to hang out with her and the kid. She wants to plan a vacation with her, kid, DH and me. I have so far managed to get out of it but now she wants to come visit us. I don't know how I am going to get out of this without making her mad. I will probably just suck it up and hope it is over quickly. What do you think?

Re: Friend problem

  • Suck it up or offer to visit her.  That way you can leave when you "need" to.

  • Do anything you can to get out of a vacation with that monster!  If your friend asks you why, be honest with her.  She's not doing her daughter any favors by encouraging bad behavior.

Sorry if this seems harsh, but I find this kind of lack of discipline with parents to be completely unacceptable.

Agreed.  You shouldn't have to put up with a spoiled brat.

  • An example of the behavior. We were eating at Wendy's and she didn't get the toy she wanted in the kids meal so she laid in the floor and cried until the cashier ask my friend to make her move because she was blocking the line.  Then she decided to play with the ketchup dispenser. She is covered in ketchup and runs over and puts her hands on the back of a woman's chair where the woman's coat is hanging. The woman got mad and ask her to move away from her table because now she has to ketchup hand stains on her coat. My friend got mad at the woman for over reacting and making her kid cry. I was so embarassed. I have not been out in public with her and the kid since that time.
  • Exactly my point!  You (and everyone else in the world) should not be forced to endure that type of behavior.  Your friend will not be happy to hear it, but someone needs to at least make an attempt to get through to her.
