Two Under 2

2 video monitors?

We have a video monitor right now for my 15  month old and I can't imagine not having it for him even when baby #2 comes.  At first baby will be in our room but I will still want to set up a monitor for her?  Can you use two monitors at the same time?

Re: 2 video monitors?

  • I have been thinking of this. I have the summer handheld, and my sister told me you can buy a separate camera for $80, and switch btwn channels, but then you cant hear them both at once. I dont want to buy another $179 handheld system, SO I was thinking of getting the reg summer video monitor--stationary not handheld, and leave the monitor in my bedroom for at night, but during the day see if I can use the handheld to switch back and forth. I dotn know if it will work, but its worth a shot. =)

oh and I was visiting my sister and I had my handheld and she had hers, and they didnt interfere, you just have to be on diff channels.

  • We have the summer hand held and bought a second monitor/camera set.

Each room is set to a different channel (toddler on B, baby on A)

I use one hand set.  (kept one upstairs and the other downstairs so I didn't have to keep track of what floor it was on)

The toddler STTN before the baby was born and if he did wake and cry we'd hear him down the hall so we kept it tuned to the baby's channel unless we needed to peek at the toddler (around waking time or to verify when he fell asleep)

It's worked out great for us!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • I just got the mobicam system and like it so far.  I wanted it because you can purchase an additinoal camera and use one handheld and like the summer, switch between channels.

We don't plan on buying the extra camera for a while since DS#2 will be in our room for a while.  The 2 boys will be sharing a room eventually so I"ll be able to hear both:)

It picks up sound very well and I have no complaints so far.

  • I have 2 summer handheld video monitors.  My DSs is the older verision, and DD's is the new Digital one.  I like them both.  I could not do the 2 cameras w/ 1 receiver because I want to have sound coming from both rooms when I go to bed.  My DS never wakes up in the night anymore, but if he did I want to know about it.
  • We had the older version of the Summer monitor and camera for DD#1 (not hand-held).  We got the Summer Handheld for this baby because I find the noise level on the non-hand-held one to be horrible (I had to get a separate sound monitor so I could keep the sound off on the video monitor -- it kept me up at night).  I can still see both rooms using the handheld with each camera set to a different channel.

I'm not happy with the Summer handheld though -- I have such horrible interference with it that you pretty much can't keep the volume up on it either so I'm back to having to get a second sound monitor so I don't have to hear all the static on the video.

EDIT -- I just discovered that if I turn off the 2nd older camera, the handheld doesn't have any interference problems.  I wonder if it's because it's an older camera.  Hmm...might have to explore this more.

  • We had the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Video Monitor for DD. I had planned on just buying another one of those so I could switch back & forth between the channels.

They came out with a new one though. It is called the Summer Infant Slim & Secure Handheld Video Monitor & you can add up to 4 cameras to it & set it to scan each one for 8 seconds so both rooms can be continuously monitored. I just got it yesterday & I switched out the one in DD's room & I love it! I haven't bought the additional camera yet, so I'm not sure how much it costs. BRU doesn't sell it yet, so I am going to contact Summer & see how much it is.
