NPR. Love when Southern California people dress for "winter"

Every.year. It was, no joke, 90 degrees yesterday. I had on a short sleeved t-shirt and jeans, and even in that I was a little warm, and I always run cold. Yet every fall/winter season, you see SoCal's best wearing their winter gear. Seriously, how the eff to you wear jeans, Uggs, and a l/s tee when it's boiling out?? And actual snow boots. Snow.boots!! It's Costco, people. Not Everest. And no, it wasn't 32 in the morning. It was like 65.

We all want the weather to change so much, I guess people are willing it to change with their winter clothes. 80 degrees + scarf + sweater = really dumb look.

Random musing over. Carry on.

  • I don't know what's worse...people wearing jeans, Uggs and l/s shirts in the heat there, or people wearing shorts, tee-shirts and sandals in the freezing cold here.

  • That's the equivalent of the Mainers who wear shorts and flip flops when it's over 45.

this drives me nuts.  yesterday I saw a chick wearing SHORT (buttcheek was hanging out) shorts, Uggs, and a big hoody.  WTF?????

  • The designers just need to make warm weather clothes in fall colors for you. I've wondered if all the winter gear gets sold in areas like So Cal and Arizona that never get cold. I guess you just answered that for me.

  • I think it was 35-40 this morning and the girls and I just had light jackets on.  Go figure!!
  • I'll admit that I was ecstatic last Wednesday when it was 65 degrees here in Phoenix and I got to wear jeans, boots and a light sweater.

But today the repairman is here to fix the air-conditioning because we still need it in November since it's 80 today.  Ugh.

  • Isn't it bizarre? I always felt a little hot flashy when I saw people wearing their Uggs in LA.

Lol. Okay..... so I'm packing to take my kids to Anaheim next week. I guess I should pack a few less long-sleeved shirts? Seriously, I'm paranoid about them being cold. Short sleeves in November seems wrong!

Any chance you could give me advice on what my kids need for evenings in this weather? We're going to Disneyland so will be out late for fireworks and such. Are they good in just a sweatshirt?

Yeah, um, I'm glad you posted this. I'm going to go dig out shorts now!

It's all about layers. It will get breezy in the evenings, probably lows in the 60's to high 50's. Maybe bring one pair of shorts, but I'd layer them in pants, t-shirt, and lightweight jacket. It will be cool in the morning and evening.

It is supposed to cool off, which for here means daytime highs in the 60-70s. They'll probably still need l/s shirts. Keep checking the weather, as hopefully it will get cooler. Anaheim isn't that far from the beach, so it gets a nice on-shore flow that brings a breeze at night that cools things off quickly.

One week I was wearing long sleeves and a scarf, two weeks later I'm back in shorts! You never know here!
