So we had a baby shower yesterday and someone gave us a pack n' play. Now we already have a bassinet and we wouldn't use it as a play pen. Are there any other uses for this thing?

We will use ours for naps downstairs (her crib is upstairs) and to travel with us...to grandma and grandpa's and I travel a lot for work...and baby can come with us.
travel... they make great beds for babies while you are traveling or a way to take baby to a soccer game or beach or something without them having to be in the stroller being held, especially when they are old enough to want to be mobile...
we got one because DH works 2 hours away and 6 days a week, it will be a whole lot easier to take the pnp when I take LO to see him than to either buy a new crib or try to find a place for LO to sleep.
We are using ours daily, but if you arent going to use it Id take it back they are kind of pricey just to use occasionally you can spend the money on things you will actually need.

We have one, and I don't forsee us using it for the first few months, but once LO is more mobile, we'll put her in it with some toys to keep her busy sometimes.
We have a 2-story house so I thought it'd be nice to have a place for him to nap on the first floor. Are you sure you wouldn't use the playpen later? My coworker said she used it quite a bit when her child was a little older, it gave him a place to hang out while she did housework.

If you have a two story house, you might want a pack-n-play on one level for naps. It works great for that. Also, the pack-n-play is a must for travel.
I hadn't planned on getting one at all, well then my boss discussed bringing LO to work with me during the first few months I returned, and I realized I would need something for her to sleep in here at the office. (i know, i know, everyone says it'll be hard, but she will go to daycare probably starting around 6 months or so). I also realized that we'd need it when traveling to visit family, so it will be helpful for then as well.

We have a crib, a co-sleeper and a bassinette. All were given to us second-hand by friends and family. I had wanted a PNP originally but didn't know if we needed it after getting the others. One thing is that a baby outgrows a bassinette alot faster than a PNP. Can you return the bassinette still? We will be using our bassinette on the main floor since the nursery is upstairs. The co-sleeper will be helpful when LO is new so I don't have to get out of bed while BFing. The crib will be used in a few months I guess. My aunt now says she has a PNP for me. Since it is free I might take it and use it for when LO goes to grandma's or outside etc.
We don't have a second floor so having a second "bed" isn't an issue. I never thought about using it for travel. That's something to think about, but is it too bulky and heavy to carry to the airport - especially with a car seat and stroller?
We do have a receipt, so exchanging it for something we need won't be a problem, I just want to make sure this is something we would actually use and I'm starting to think we won't get much use out of it.

Mostly just a portable crib. I didn't think I wanted or needed one but when DS was little and sleeping often and through anything, it was nice to have it down stairs (after he was too big for bassinette and rolling around a bit). Plus we use it when we go on vacation. He still fits in it and he's almost 2. If you're not sure, then I would return and decide later if you need one.
I have a one story smallish house, and still used the pnp while my DD was little for sleeping during the day or while I was able to clean or watch tv, or just be out of the bedroom. She slept thru Rock Band (it came out right around her birth) and would wake up when a song would end and go back to sleep when a new one would start.
I didn't really travel much with it, b/c with everything else it was bulky, but we stayed in places that had one or had other arrangements in place for her.
Now it's a ballpit, and will be a bassinet for my new LO.
Re: Do I really need a pack n' play?
Maybe if you travel with LO?
Did they provide a receipt so you can return it if you choose not to use it?
