North Carolina Babies

Registry Question

First off- does Target still have the reputation from the day of wedding registries where returns are comlpicated and the registry isn't updated?

Secondly- did you register only at Babies r Us or at both?

I REALLY don't want to be dragging stuff back to two locations when I'm 8 months pregnant or after having baby, so any input appreciated!

Re: Registry Question

  • We only registered at BRU, it kept it simple and we found everything we needed plus some there. ?

  • We registered at both and had no issues. I don't think I even ended up returning more than 2 or 3 items to Target, but I had the gift receipt. The main reason I added Target was because I was having a big work shower and most of those people did buy off that registry rather than driving out to a BRU, Target was easier.

  • We did Target & BRU. Getting to a BRU is a pain for a lot of people, since there are only a few in the State (many of my guests were not in the Raleigh area), so Target was a good choice. Just make sure that the item you're returning is on the Target registry--if it's not, add it before you go to the store. They are still kind of ridiculous with their policies, but the convenience of Target to everyone made it worth it to me. I didn't have any issues with either place (luckily, most people gave me gift receipts, or I wanted to keep their gifts!)

    Ditto!

  • Target's registry is still a PITA b/c you HAVE to have a receipt to return (only get 2 non-receipt returns per year, per person).  We got a ton of clothing, and returned a lot.  If it had been purchased at Target, we would have been stuck, b/c we didn't get gift receipts for the majority of our gifts.

We just registered at BRU. ETA:  BRU was convenient to all of our family and friends except a few, but they were still able to access the BRU registry online to see what items we were looking for.

  • Target recently changed their policy on returns without a receipt.  It's something like, you can return up to $75 or $100 (sorry, I can't remember the exact amount, but it's up there) of merchandise without a receipt per year.  So figure roughly $200 with both your and DH's ID.  We didn't have any problems with returns and trust me, I'm the freaking returning champion of the world since having this kid. Most stores will allow the return without receipt and give you store credit. If all else fails though, you can always try returning things to Walmart.
  • Your baby registry doubles as a recepit....so if you don't get a gift receipt then you can just print that....it does not count towards your two returns per year unless its NOT on your registry.
  • We registered at Target and BRU. We had most of the stuff on the target registry and just a few things on the BRU that we couldn't find at target. We only got a few duplicates but I think from looking at the receipt people were shopping the same day. But we had receipts and the registry and had no problems returing. Target is much more convienent for us also the prices are lower so i figured i could still get the same stuff but people could spend a little less.

  • We just did BRU because I boycott Target for registries.  It worked out fine.  Some of our family didn't have a BRU in their town, but they were able to find the same products at their Walmart and we just marked them off the BRU registry after we got them.  It really wasn't a big deal and I'm glad I didn't have to keep up with 2 registries at the time.
