2nd Trimester

2nd guessing our carseat/Snap & Go purchase. Please help...

On Friday we bought the Baby Trend Snap & Go that holds the matching Flex Loc infant car seat. We really like it, but are wondering now if it's worth the short amount of time we can use it.

I think I saw a City Mini stroller today that had an infant seat attached to it, but also was a regular stroller once the car seat is removed. That seems like more bang for your buck... like it will last more than up to 40 lbs.

Any advice... we're new at this.

:)

  • I wanted light.  I got an infant seat and a frame.  I figure down the line I'll have a better idea of how I'll use a stroller and we'll go from there.

  • I got the Graco Metrolite travel system with DD was born.  I was so glad because she hated being in the carseat and I ended up using the stroller full time by the time she was 3m old.  I loved having a stroller that fully reclined and was useable with a small infant that was not sitting up yet.
  • I was told by other mommies that SnG's only hold up to 20 pounds. My friends baby is 6 mo and 19lbs. I am not trying to keep buying new things, so we are just going with the travel system

  • I used to work at a baby boutique in college.  We were constantly selling new strollers to parents of 9 month olds who were sick of their travel system stroller.  Most of the travel system strollers are way to big to use on their own.  With our first we got a seat and frame and a nice stroller that we liked and I loved it.
  • I wish I would have done a snap & go because it's light. I bought the Eddie bauer travel system when I was preg. w/ DD and once she was out of the baby carrier, I NEVER used it anymore. My aunt got me the baby trend light weight stroller from BRU (I think it's about $50) and I use it all the time. I recommend it as a secondary light weight. It has a cup holder, basket underneath for storage it reclines back so DD can nap while we're out, and folds pretty flat. It weighs about 2x's as much as my umbrella (so maybe 8 or 10 lbs? it's light). I know other brands also have light weight strollers similiar to the one I have. I was using it from the time DD was 8 mo. on up and it's held up great (even to the pumpkin patch).

  • I don't think this is a waste, because likely you'll want the infant car seat anyway, and the snap n go is relatively inexpensive. After you have the baby, you can pick out another stroller which you'll use all the time (possibly a city mini if thats what you like). You don't have to get a snap n go, if you want to get an infant carseat and another compatible stroller, which would save you some money- but I know a ton of people love snap n gos.

We are getting the Graco Snugride seat and the Bob Revolution. We're probably going to register for the Graco stroller frame and if we get it great, if not we might buy once the LO is born.

The one thing I'd check on, is if you want to use the infant seat with a different stroller (such as the city mini), i'd make sure the one you bought is compatible. I'm not sure, but Graco and Chico seem to be the most compatible across brands.

  • Oh, and I bought our frame on CL for about half price so keep your eye on that as well.
  • Ohhh, I registered us for the  BOB Revolution stroller. With an adapter the Flex Loc infant seat may work. We'll keep the Snap & Go too since it's so small, and not much will fit into hubby's car.

I just checked the boxes and the infant seat is 30 lbs, and 30 inches. The Snap & Go is good for up to 40 lbs.

Thank you ladies. I really appreciate your advice.

  • Not exactly related to your post, but we have the Baby Trend jogging stroller travel system, and I love it.  I like the Baby Trend products.

  • I loved having a snap n go.  It is light, and so easy to get into and out of the car.  We got a nice bigger stroller for walks around the block but it is too much to take places regularly.  We used the snap n go until he was out of the carseat and then just switched to an umbrella stroller.
