Can you shrink woolies?

So I have a few pairs of woolies that I had made but theyre quite big, so I wondered if drying them in the dryer would shrink them or ruin them.

I know, stupid question, but I don't want to spend more on even more wool covers.

Thanks!

  • You can wash them and felt them in the dryer, throw in a towel with them and check every few minutes for size.  But I'd probably use them even if they're too big and just let your DC grow into them.

  • I'm not sure I know what felting means.. the ones that I'd like to shrink are too big for my 2 year old.  Well not too big, but there is room to spare and gaps in the legs.

And these are pink girly ones meant for the new baby when she gets here.

Felting is what happens to wool when it is washed in hot water and the fibers are allowed to rub up against each other.  They lock together and form a bulletproof fabric.  Not stretchy, but definitely effective!
