chair rail?

I was wondering if anyone has had experience installing a chair rail in their nursery.  A painter is coming next week to do the bottom half of the room white and the top half a pale pink. I'd like to put a chair rail up at the "seam" between the two colors.  Is this something my husband can do (he's not very experienced in handyman-ship, but has friends who have the tools, etc) or is it very difficult to do? I'm assuming it's just nailed in, so it seems easy, but I have no idea!

Re: chair rail?

  • it's pretty easy so long as you have access to a miter saw or hand saw and miter box.

  • I would also reccomend getting a nail gun. My hubby and FIL installed cahir rail with NOOOOOO experience at all. It turned out great! Pics in blog. It took them about 15 hours or so.
  • It is pretty easy to do.  We were going to do one in our baby's room, but the stupid window sill was getting in the way so we went with a wallpaper boarder instead that matches the bedding.
  • DH and FIL are planning on installing chair rail and crown molding in the nursery - they did the crown molding in our livingroom with no experience so it's def. doable. GL
