At my last appointment, I think my doctor mentioned having one at my 30 week appointment... I've read about how much they hurt/the uselessness of them... any suggestions?
I think mine is at my next appointment (I'll be 32w6d). Understand that the people who have no problems with them don't complain about them - the internet can be kind of one-sided that way. If you'd ever had a painful pap w/ bleeding after, then I'd be a little concerned. Otherwise I have heard for some they are no big deal.

I was at 29 weeks due to PTL and have had them since then, but I don't think its routine until between 36-38 weeks, unless they have some reason to believe you are high risk?
I had my GBS at 36 weeks and my first internal at 37.
The internals have progressively hurt worse each week. I think it's because my cervix is softening, but not getting any lower and the doctors have to keep shoving their whole damn hand up there to feel for anything.
*sigh*

I have my first on Tuesday for my 36 week appt, unless you are having PTL I don't see a reason do it any earlier than 36..some docs/midwives never do them.
I get to avoid it altogether since they don't do them routinely here in the UK before you start showing signs of actual labour.
Can't say I'm sad about it considering all they seem to do is make people more anxious for progress. I'm okay being kept in the dark on this one, hehe.
I had 3 internals at the beginning of pregnancy and one with gel on the tummy at the hospital for the big measurement one and now we'll go back for our 30 week internal on Tuesday... I've felt slight pressure but no real pain when having them done. I even got a pap on week 27 due to an irregular one early on and it wasn't pleasant but no lasting pain...
I had my GBS test at 36 weeks and she started internals at 37 weeks. Honestly I dont see any reason to do them at 30. I havent even had any dilation yet. They are very uncomfortable, but dont last very long. Im not sure I would let her do them that early.

My doctor told me Friday at my 34 appointment that I would have my first internal next visit at 36 weeks. From that point forward, I will have an internal weekly until she decides to come.
Re: When was your first internal exam?
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo (06.06.13)
