Testing after D&C?

I'm not even sure how to word this...but my RE is doing testing of the baby and materials taken during my D&C.  I miscarried at 9 weeks but the baby only measured 5w6d's.  What are they testing for exactly?  (This is my first m/c but my Doctor offered to test)

I think they test for any abnormality in the placenta, in the baby (such as chromosomal problem) to rule out the cause of miscarriage if possible.  In my case, they tested the tissue from the D&C to see wether it is a molar pregnancy or not.  The Path report comes back normal.

It's good that they run those tests to make sure everything is normal, and if everything is normal, they would advice you on when to TTC again.  Normally 2-3 cycles.  Did they also do HCG tests to follow it down to 0 for you?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just had my second D&C this morning. Last time they were not able to get any of the cells to grow, so we never got the answers we were hoping for. I pray it will be different this time. I just want some clue as to what is going on.

It's good to try for the answers, even if they can't find anything. I hope everything comes back clear for you.

I was wondering this myself since my OB told DH, while I was still out, that they were going to do some testing but didn't really explain.

Our test results indicated our baby had trisomy 16.  Also, we were told the sex of the baby- a girl.  The genetic specialist went over our results with us today.  He said that if the results came back indicating the baby was healthy, my OB could begin testing me b/c there could be a clotting problem, etc.  However, with the results indicating a trisomy problem, he said it was basically "bad luck" and we had a 98% chance of having a healthy baby with our next pregnancy.  Also, if we have a 3rd miscarriage, he may look into testing my husband and I for chromosome problems, but he felt that was not needed at this point and most likely we did not have any chromosome problems.

Why don't they test for clotting problems with your first OB visit. They draw you blood for other tests, why not check for this also??  I am reading more and more about positive tests for clotting disorders after m/c. This frustrates me to no end!!!

     Sorry, just venting a little.

I am very sorry for your loss, and I am sorry for each and every one of us on this board.
