Gassiest baby in babyland

Does anyone have any good techniques for helping a baby de-gas?  Poor miss M inflates like a balloon, and almost never burps.  I've tried laying her face-down across my knees, hoisting her over my shoulder, carrying her around face-down, giving her belly rubs, doing "bicycle legs"... it's really hard to deflate her!

For reference, she's exclusively breast-fed (and eats a LOT), gaining well, and saves up her poop for one really big, wet, messy one every day and a half or so.

  • Gas drops right before every feeding.  You'll only need to do that for likely another month.  A nestie on my local board shared this technique and it works (or did for DS who was super gassy).  Sit her up facing you or away from you (doesn't matter).  With one hand supporting her front and one hand supporting her back (use your fingers to support her head), rotate her body in a clockwise or counter-clockwise motion (her legs are stationary) for about 10-12 rotations.  That usually gets up a burp or two and even if it doesn't, when I put him to my shoulder after doing that, I'd usually get a couple good burps right away.  Also, a warm bath or warm compress on the belly can help with gas pains too.  GL!!

  • Sorry, I am stuck on one poop ever day and 1/2. Maddie pooped every hour or so at tht age. I was just happy when she woke up without a poopie.

Gas pains are the worst for little ones, I am so sorry!

Do you think its something in your diet? Maddie can't have dairy or soy - ergo, I cannot have dairy/soy. It made her have painful gas and weird poops. For your sake, I hope its not that. Eliminating both dairy and soy has been the pits..

All I can think of is warm baths if she like them. Sorry, I am not much help. :o(

My Niece does the funky rotation to her baby and it works!

  • Somebody on here recommended the"drunken baby" technique when M was her age. It involves sitting baby up at a 90 degree angle then rotating her torso like she's tipsy. Works well for M, not sure if how much they poop effects it though(M poops almost constantly).

    Good luck!

Must have been Pesky, and her's is  a much better explanation.

  • Thank you guys so much!  The rotate thingie does help!
