BFing DC2 easier then DC1?

Anyone else in this boat with me?  Rylee would NOT take a bottle regardless of what was in it.  I finally had to wean her off the breast in order to gain some independence from her at 10-12 weeks old.

Kai is a amazing BFer (could sleep longer... but oh well) and he takes a bottle if there is BM in there... its awesome...

Anyone else finding that BFing DC2 was easier?

  • It's been WAY easier for me too. I used to say that BFing was harder than being pregnant...not anymore.

Although, these last few days she's been coming unlatched constantly during her feeds. Today I plan on pumping and feeding and then trying again tomorrow. We shall see.

  • yes, it was for me as well.

  • Well, in terms of the actual "act" of BFing, yes, it's been easier with #2 and super easy with #3.

BUT, neither DD#2 or DS take any bottles - they REFUSE!!!!! Only DD#1 took bottles. And I nurse for a year too! I'm still nursing DS and he is NOT STTN at all........

  • well, it was easier for me the 2nd time around b/c I didn' thave all of the new baby stuff to overcome.  I had some more energy to devote to making BFing successful the 2nd time around (only BF for 6 weeks the 1st time).  It definitely got easier over time.  But, my DD was such a little piggy, she would eat anything.  That helped a lot!

  • Me.  There was a lot less pain this time around, I was much more relaxed so I think that lessened our learning curve dramatically, and my supply has been much better this time around too.

  • Not for me, we have just dealt with different issues this time.Sad
  • Sooooo much easier!
  • What do you mean you weaned her at 10-12 weeks to have some independence? If she didn't take a bottle, wouldn't you have to nurse? I am confused.

But to answer your question, nursing #2 was definitely easier, and I attribute that to me having some experience under my belt.

I desperatly wanted to go back to work, and she would not take a bottle... of anything... would scream until I came to her... About made my mom lose her mind!  She just could not go back and forth.  I pumped for maybe a week before I just threw in the towel.  I also think I had some PPD issues as well...

  • I wish I could say it was but that would be a lie for me. It was terribly painful.
  • The actual BFing- yes, definitely less pain this time around and I'm more skilled at different holds (last time at 3-4 weeks I needed about 57 pillows and was chained to couch).

BUT, I think it's harder with a toddler b/c he knows when I'm BFing, I'm occupied so that's when he starts acting up (ie during dinner he started putting peas up his nose). And the baby seems to feed better in a quiet environment and that isn't happening with Ryan around, so I have a lot of on/off the breast snacking which is a PITA.
