I have to pick between 2 hospitals.
Hospital 1: Where I had my previous surgeries and my 2 babies. Great hospital to give birth in and I know a few of the nurses. BUT...they really, really F'd up my care after my fusion. I had blocked the hard parts out but the planning of another surgery is making me rethink things. My GP can round there and he has been a rock for me. But...they really messed up bad. So much so that a formal complaint was lodged (not by me at first although I was interviewed for the complain and it was taken very seriously) and so bad that the nurse who fixed the fvkc up stopped me a year later when she saw me in the hospital on the way to my u/s with Kate. She wanted to tell me that she thought about me often and that because of what happened to me they had a new policy so that no other patient would go through what I went through.
Hospital 2: Horrible hospital to give birth in and that tainted my view of them. I don't know much about them other then a friend of a friend had her surgery there with the same surgeon I have and she loved it. My cousin's dh was there for a week and they took great care of him. They are connected to the hospital that Kate was in and they are supposed to be a good hospital...I just don't know.
WWYD? Go with the known despite the bad or go with the unknown that could be a lot better?
Re: Serious WWYD?
Wow, that is a tough one. I guess another question to throw out there is do you think (or I wonder how you could find out) if the "new policy" at hospital #1 is really in practice. Does your surgeon have any thoughts on this?
((hugs))

The new policy is that now no nurse can change a post-op patients meds w/o dr approval. What happened last time is that about 12 hours after my fusion a float nurse (who from what I understand was formally reprimanded) answered my page because my Dilaudid machine was beeping because it had run out and needed to be changed. She told me that I didn't need it any more and that I could have Tylenol with Codeine instead. I told her that no, that wouldn't work because it wasn't the same thing. She said it was. I told her that it wasn't and that if I couldn't have the Dilaudid that I was to have Percocet. She told me I didn't need the Percocet because T3 was just as strong and that I would be just fine. I argued with her (in tears because I was in so much pain) and she told me I was being uncooperative and that I could have the T3 or nothing. She said if I didn't take it she would write that I was refusing pain meds. So I took the T3, sobbed and blacked out. That was at 3:am
Now it's 8:am and the next thing I remember is my dr (a SAINT) coming in the next morning and asking where my pump was. I told him the nurse took it away because I she said I didn't need it. He held my hand and told me to hang in there and that he'd fix it and he'd be right back. He is a small, soft spoken man but it was a matter of seconds before I had a whole TEAM of people in my room giving me shots in my IV and getting a pump hooked up. I had gone more then 5 hours w/o any real pain medication less then 24 hours after a spinal fusion.
More gentle (((hugs))). After hearing that, I'd probably choose #2. Good luck with your decison - I'll say a prayer for you!

Is #2 Regions?
I would do more research probably. Talk to Go4, ro there is a mom on the API list whose H is an ER Doc at Regions. See if they know anyone you could talk to that works on the floor you would be on.
I would lean towards Regions though. I think Joe's is great for birth, but sicne that is all they are known for + your experience, I would shy away.
As another local, I totally agree. There are lots of hospitals around here that are horrible for birth, but fabulous for other things so definitely use them for those other things!
The other is actually United.
not regions. But I would highly recommend regions for things like trauma and spine surgery...I just wouldn't recommend their L&D.
Of the 2, I'd probably pick United...
