Very few people IRL know this about me.  And I will delete this shortly.

My maiden name was Schanck.  My family pronounced it "Skank"  When I went away to college, I told everyone it was pronounced "Shank" and I stuck with it.  When I brought college boyfriends home to meet my parents, my mom started to question why none of the boys I dated knew my last name.  I begged her, "For godsake mom, don't tell them the truth!"

Eventually, my parents caught on to how offensive being called "skank" is and even they changed how they pronounce their last name.

I never told DH about how my last name was really pronounced until the morning AFTER our wedding.  That's when I told him he was married to a skank.  He absolutely LOVES being married to a skank.
