My babies were born at 31 1/2 weeks. Obviously preemies and did NICU time. However, the neo doctors and pedis all have us treating them like normal infants, not much really extra being preemies except being a little extra careful around people that are sick, etc. Not one of them mentioned "lock down" or "confinement" even when I asked about precautions and avoiding places. Told us to go to a less busy mass on Sunday's, go to stores in the morning, avoid busy restaurants and times, etc. Anyone else's doctors not mention "lock down"? Maybe because they always breathed room air after being born? But I know all preemies lungs still are underdeveloped.
That being said, I'm extremely careful and they have only been around immediate family that is screened for sickness and scrubbed down. All have had their flu shots and H1N1 including my nieces and nephews (who aren't allowed to touch them or be over their faces)
Re: I think I'm missing something
Mine didn't, either. Our pedi just mentioned not going out to crowded places and being around school-aged kids for the first time last week, and it was because they've seen so many cases of H1N1.
We're being careful, too - we haven't really been anywhere since he's been home and my nephews (ages 4 1/2 and 2) haven't come to see him.

Our pedi is the same way. We asked about it on more than one occasion and were told the same thing every time--she is fine, nothing extra required. Our neonatologist told us that Lily's lungs were already almost fully developed just based on age, and the fact we got the steroid shots at 27 weeks really made a huge difference. However, I know other neos and doctors have differing opinions on this so I understand why it is different from person to person.
Last fall/winter we were very, very cautious. They received the synagis shots and we didn't take them anywhere but to doctor's appointments. We allowed close family & friends to come over as long as they weren't sick and on Christmas we did take the babies over to my mom's where my 3 nieces were. Again, my nieces had never been in daycare or school and we made sure that they weren't sick. My pedi was pretty laid back and basically said not to take them to places like the mall or church.
Looking back I'm glad we were very cautious with them. They ended up only getting one cold at 11 mos. and it wasn't even that bad. Not getting sick when they were little allowed them to get stronger immune-wise.
This year I'm struggling with how much to keep them on lockdown.
