And she's been coughing all day without covering her mouth. I mean, I know I've most likely been exposed to it, but my understanding is that you are way more likely to contract the virus from someone coughing than from touching a surface and then somehow putting it into your mouth (and I am washing my hands constantly and NOT touching my face).
I just wish she had left THIS MORNING or had not come in AT ALL because I overheard a phone conversation where she told the person she woke up with a sore throat.
I am so sick of how selfish people are about NOT staying home!
My girls are getting their H1N1 shots tonight but I feel like it is a race against time for them to build their immunity before they'd actually catch it.
Re: Great - cube neighbor just went home with the flu
ugh. I hope you don't get whatever she has, but I don't think that someone coughing means they have H1N1. I most definitely have a cold right now, but I am almost 100% positive it's not the flu.
I think our culture and work ethic makes it hard for people to stay home sick unless they are running a fever and/or drop-dead sick. I think the "stay home if you are sick" mentality is pretty new in our culture.
I agree that it doesn't necessarily mean H1N1. The reason I suspect it, though, is because I'm on a smaller project team and H1N1 is making the rounds--and in MN the number of cases has skyrocketed in the past week. It's pretty rampant around here. I hope she's back in the office tomorrow WITHOUT the flu!
And I work for a very team-oriented company, so I also agree that people don't want to "let the team down" with an absence.
Thankfully (which sounds totally inappropriate), a nasty cold is also going around so it could be that.
