Grochery store trips with your older twins?

I have 9 mth old twins...going to the grochery store has been easy thus far - I just put 1 baby (in their car seat) in the cart part and 1 baby (with or without car seat) in the seat part but we will be switching to the convertible car seats soon so how can i take them along???

  • is there a store around you with double carts?  if so that's your best (easiest) option.  if not, what I do is wear one (bjorn, ergo etc) and have the other sit in the cart seat.  I've heard of people who push a stroller and drag a cart but I never tried that, sounded too cumbersome!

  • At nine months, we tended to use the stroller instead of the double carts because the double carts were never near the car and I don't know how you transfer two non-walking babies from the car to the store otherwise.   I tended to do smaller shopping trips and throw everything in the bottom of my stroller and I also had a larger canvas bag I'd attach to handles of my stroller to fit more stuff.   When I needed to buy large items or simply lots and lots of groceries, I'd push the stroller with one hand and pull the cart with the other.  That was easy when they were little and using the double SNG, but got harder as they got older and heavier and had a heavier stroller.

After they became walkers, I used double shopping carts exclusively.

  • some MoMs said they put both babies in the single cart seat - with one leg each sticking through and the other leg bent - with babies turned a little sort of facing each other - i'll try that when the time comes, if I have to do a big shopping trip.  My store does not have double carts (but i did request them and the manager is looking into it).

or i'll wear one and have the other sit.... or use the stroller and put groceries in the bottom and also in a big bag attached to the handlebar - i use an Ikea bag (they are huge and sturdy) attached with a large clip - and can put a full grocery trip worth of stuff in there.  I do this now sometimes - with the stroller or with the shopping cart and both infant seats in the cart.

soon i'll have my toddler with me 2 days a week, too - so i've got a plan for him ,too!  We'll use those carts with those extra seats on the back for older kids when i have him... or the one with the little car in the front - or he'll be wearing his backpack leash and walking.

  • I do take DC to the grocery store in their stroller. I tried the push one, pull one method once and it was WAY too much of a hassle. So, now I take H with me or I only take them when I need a few things (or 1/2 a normal shopping) and put the stuff under the stroller and use a hand basket.
  • Until they got too big, I would cram them both into the single seat. Their inside legs would go through the leg holes, and when they were small enough their outside legs could go between the seat and the cart wall - but only if they weren't wearing shoes. When they got too big for their outside legs there, I would put their inside legs through the leg holes, then fold their outside legs in, so those legs were sitting "Indian style" (IDK what that kind of sitting is called... that's what we called it when I was a kid).

  • I usually put them either in the stroller and put what I needed inthe basket or the store that I went to with the boys would have someone help me push a second cart Stick out tongue  They followed me around a second cart from the first time they saw me with the boys.  I was fortunate, though, because the manager at the store is amazing!  4 years later and she is still great to my boys.

OMG, that is how you do it?  I have been seriously neglecting the grocery store forever because I can't figure out how someone would push the stroller and pull the cart at the same time or whatever.

  • I do Costco and the grocery story by myself.  I just put the girls in their double stroller and push both the stroller and the cart along.  The grocery store was much easier than Costco, less crowded.  If you have a stroller that is easy to manauver, it really isn't that bad.  A little cumbersome, yes, but when you have errands, you have to do what you have to do.
  • This is one of the things I wonder most about: how on earth am I going to shop with my 3 1/2 year old and the twin boys I'll be having soon? Luckily my parents live close by, and I think that unless it's absolutely unavoidable I'm going to leave the kiddos with them while I run to the grocery, or else we'll all go together, and Grandparents can have fun pushing the babes around while I throw the stuff into the cart!

Thanks for asking this question. I got some good ideas from the responses!

At first I wore one baby and pushed L and one of the girls in the double stroller and packed stuff into the basket. (graco duo glider has a huge basket)  Of course this only worked when a) the girls were small enough to be worn and not kill my back and b) small shopping trip.

Here is what we have done since the girls were about 3 months old.  Put girls in double stroller, Landon in the shopping cart.  Push stroller and pulls shopping cart.  :)  I have done this at walmart, foodlion, target, sams club and kroger for 3yrs now.  Im scared of the day when the girls are too big for the stroller and I have a shopping cart and 3 preschoolers running around the store.  :(  Of course my favorite way to shop now is while they are in preschool on my days off!  I also used to go to walmart at midnight (or right after bedtime) to avoid taking the kids.
