Does anyone use cloth ONLY at night?

And if you do, do you just throw the dirties in with your regular laundry? pending you use cloth-friendly detergent...

Re: Does anyone use cloth ONLY at night?

  • I'm just the opposite.  We use cloth all day (even daycare) but I have to psych myself up to use it at night.

  • I think more people would either 1) use cloth only at home or 2) only use cloth during the day but not at night.

    :)

If it's just pee....I guess you could toss it in with regular clothes.

  • well, we had been using cloth full time, but are taking a break right now for various reasons. But, using disposables at night is just terrible. DD is a heavy wetter, and even with a change midway though the night she's leaking and soaking her pj's and sheets.

So I thought maybe using her regular sbish night diapers would be better. But obviously I don't want to waste water doing a load of 2 or 3 diapers at a time. I suppose if it is just pee though washing with other clothes should be fine (?) Guess I'm just concerned about detergent build up or wondering if the dipes would get clean enough.

  • I have a friend who does and it works really well for her. She started cloth after her kids were potty trained because she hated buying disposables for just nighttime and her son is a really heavy wetter, so she thought she'd give it a try. She has a smaller baby now and 4 + 5 yr old, so until the new baby was born, so was just throwing the wet nighttime diapers in with her regular laundry when she threw in a load in the morning.
  • We only cloth at night during the week, because we can't cloth at daycare.  But we cloth full time on the weekends.  This is what I do.  I wash on Mondays and Fridays.  On Monday I have a full load of diapers from over the weekend, but on Fridays I only have about 4 diapers to wash, give or take.  I am not comfortable washing cloth with our regular laundry, I'm not sure why.  So I just wash them alone on the smallest setting on our washer.  I don't know about your washer, but the smallest setting on ours is really low, so I don't feel like I'm wasting much water by doing that.  I don't guess there's any harm in washing them with your regular laundry if you use CD safe detergent, but for some reason I just don't feel right doing that.  Or maybe you could wash them with towels?  I would be less concerned about towels than clothes.
