humor me- h1n1 shot and now I'm freaking out

ds got his shot on sat. He had a slight fever (normal reaction)  the next day but also started coughing sat night. His fever went away but now he is coughing. sneezing, runny nose and a fever.

Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot? I had orginnaly thought it was just bad luck that he got sick but after my dance class tonight people were saying they heard people got sicker from the shot than the actual flu. My gut is saying they are full of it and people don't know their facts, but the mommy in me can't wait for the pedi office to open!

His fever wasn't overly high- 101.7 rectally

If he got the flu mist it is possible but I'm pretty sure the shot doesn't make you get the flu.

No, the shot is not a live strain of the virus.  I would chalk it up to coincidental timing with the shot & illness.

You can't get it from the shot but if he got the mist he could.  From the shot, it is a dead virus.  He might have been exposed already and be experiencing symptoms.  Hope he feels better soon.

The flu SHOT contains a dead virus.  The flu shot did not make him sick.  Sounds like a case of bad luck.  Sorry your guy is sick.

it takes approx 2 weeks to build up immunity with the flu shot -- and children need a 2nd dose, too... so he can still get the flu in that time... but not from the shot.

I just saw a chart comparing cold vs. flu symptoms the other day, but can't remember where... Anyway, I'm pretty sure sneezing was associated with colds but not flu.  It's very possible that he picked up a virus at the doctor's office.  Lots of sick people going through there!
