If you want to have a nanny to help on your vacation, that's up to you. You're right, lots of people do it and it's possible to have a responsible nanny search. But the thing I am curious about is why you feel you need 2? You've mentioned that you don't want one to be bored in the evenings or alone. But really, you are an employer in this case. You need to treat this as a professional relationship. When I was working, my employer certainly didn't care if I had a good time after work hours. As a matter of fact, if you are providing your nanny with a companion to stay out late with and possibly drink with, you are asking for trouble.
You are paying the nanny for a JOB. If she has to spend her off time in the hotel watching Matlock reruns because she doesn't want to go sight see alone, that's her problem, not yours.
