MH just asked me if he could go OOT overnight for a work meeting on Wed night. It's just one night but I don't think I'm ready for this yet. I take care of Mallory all day by myself but I am usually so ready for his help by the time he gets home. I can't imagine doing the whole day and evening and night myself. OMG....I could cry at the thought of this. My mom was just here Sunday night and doesn't live that close. My MIL is going to probably offer to help but I'm not sure that would be any better then being alone. My sister is too busy at work to take time off this week.
We decided we would discuss further tonight. Anyone have experience with this at 5.5 weeks old?
Re: Just found out DH might have to travel
My DH went to Dubai for 8 nights when Joseph was 6 weeks. My mom came for like 5 days but I had 2 nights by myself at the beginning and 1 night by myself at the end. I was totally freaked out about it but the first night was pretty good - he was breastfed, so I was used to doing all the night wakings anyways. The second night was a beast!!!! He cried for like 4 hours straight from like 1 am to 5 am. I still remember finally getting him to sleep sucking on my thumb in my bed and DH ringing the phone at like 6 am and waking us up! I was so annoyed! I was so tired the next day but luckily my mom came in that morning.
It's going to be hard the first time no matter what age he is - I still hate when DH is gone at night because I don't get any break before bedtime - but 6 weeks definitely makes it harder. I would just discuss with him how important it is that he goes and whether there might be better timing when it would be more convenient for you mom to come. If he needs to go, you will do just fine though!!! The anticipation is worse and if its just one night, you can survive anything!
DH works 24 hr shifts so I have experience since the beginning. It is tough! MIL has come a few times to keep me sane but for the most part I am always alone. My advice is 1. Have someone stop by at least for a bit so you can shower and eat and 2. Make yourself comfortable with movies in case she doesn't let you move.
DH is trying to go out of town next weekend for opening hunting weekend--- I am not amused. I have learned to handle 24 hrs but 48...eeek! Good Luck!!
