A funny story from my last MW appointment:
DH went with me for the family history/heartbeat apt. Our MW was asking all the standard questions that may lead a couple to ask for genetic counseling - any immediate relatives w/ tay sachs, etc. When she came to the question "are you related?" we both kind of laughed and answered that as far as we knew we were only related twice by marriage and neither couple were close relatives. She paused and then said they were really only worried about first or second cousins. When we said no, the relatives were much more distant than that, she put down her pen and looked at us and said, "I think you're the first couple to every answer that question positively."
We're from a very rural, isolated farming community and even 50 years ago you didn't marry outside your heritage or religion (German and Lutheran/Brethren). Given that both our families have been there for literally 100s of years, we could probably find a few more marital connections if we really tried.
Confession time - anyone else's family tree entwine w/ their SO's, even just the teeniest bit?
Re: Since it's slow...
I don't think so, but we both can trace our families back to the Mayflower...
However our lives have intertwined so many times, before we were even born it's crazy. My mom took photography classes from DH's dad and had a crush on him, his dad was a school volunteeer under my mom's program, his grandparents lived only 2 blocks from my aunt for like 20 years, his other grandparents had a house only 2 miles from another set of my relatives (and this is on the other side of the country) and they even went to the same church. So really, there could be some of our relatives who are related!
I grew up in southwestern PA, about 25 miles from WV. I have no room to laugh!
