Possibly flameful, does your 3 year old...

...still sleep in a crib?  Anyone?  Anthony loves his crib.  We got him a big boy bed last christmas and it is still just collecting dust in his room.  He likes to sleep in a bed when we are out of town, but when we are home he wants to be in his crib.  Am I scarring him for not moving him to a bed?  Is he the only 3 year old around still in a crib?

Re: Possibly flameful, does your 3 year old...

  • Kind of. His crib is a convertible and right now it is on the daybed conversion. He does sleep in a twin at my parents house and we will be moving him to his "big boy room" and in a full size bed within the next 2 months. He is getting too long for his crib, but that is just one reason we are moving him.

My mom says she had me in a crib till I was 4 because I kept wetting the bed and she had a waterproof mattress in the crib.

  • I hardly think it's flameful or scarring him. I don't see it as a big deal at all. He'll eventually want to sleep in a big bed.
  • I dont see any reason to move a child out of a crib if they still like it and dont vault themselves out of it or something. Why not, you know?
  • Evan still sleeps in a crib and he will be three in December. I'm in absolutely no hurry to move him out. He's happy in it and I'm happy that he can't get out :-)

  • Yes.  She loves her crib and sleeps best in it.  We will change to a toddler bed before the year's end.
  • My DD has been in her full-sized bed since last December. (She turned 3 two weeks ago). If the crib still works for you and him, then I don't see a problem with it. There is no way my DD would handle being in one, though.
  • if he's happy, I wouldn't worry. you'll know when the time is right. maybe spend some time reading to him while lying on the big boy bed?
  • He's in a bed now, but I kept him in his crib for probably 6 months longer than I should have because he started climbing out of (and into) it.

  • Yes. He sleeps through the night. He's 3.5 actually. Pedi said there's no harm in it if he's not thrashing around or trying to get out. He doesn't do either. I never hear him bang against the sides.
  • ds will be 3 in dec and is still in a crib. I love it! I know we'll move him soon and are starting to talk up the big boy room

    Ditto!

We do have it converted, but she doesn't realize she can get out (knock wood). No plans for a big girl bed, since she is tiny, we are in no rush!

  • Thanks everyone!!  he really loves the crib so I hate to change something that is working, but I just wanted to make sure he was age appropriate.
  • My 2.5yo is still in her crib.  I'm not in any hurry to move her out, quite frankly. My bff's DD was in her crib until almost 4.  Mostly because when she threw her epic tantrums, that was the only place my friend could put her to calm her down.  Do it whenever, IMO.
  • We didn't move DD out of her crib until about 2 months after her 3rd b-day. She loved it and never climbed out (except ironically about 3 days before her new bed was being delivered). We only were moving her because she was getting too big for it.
