I invited about 35 people to my shower. The RSVP asked everyone to do so by 10.31. My hostess informed me that she has had ONE rsvp.?

Hmm...You still have some time before the 31st, but I would have the hostess give people a call and see if they are coming. It's a pita, but lots of people think RSVP is regrets only, so if you want an accurate headcount...that's the way to go.

Well, it IS only the 26th.... 

On Nov 1st, whoever hasn't RSVP'd, the hostess can start calling anyone who hasn't RSVP'd.

Yeah, I know there is are a few more days, but it's still a pain. So far, there will be 7 people.

I think the reason why I'm so tense about it is because it was basically the same thing that happened at my bridal shower... just a different set of people. I had 5 guests outside of my bridal party come (and no one from DH's family came).

I thought that part of the reason was because DH's family lived an hour away. So now I specifically planned a shower for that area (well, my friend offered, so I got stoked) and it just seems like DH's family is flaking out again.

Wow, that's not cool. I hope they just haven't gotten around rsvp-ing yet, and will all be there.

 

As the pp said, have the hostess start making calls 11/1.

Well its not quite 10/31 yet most people will wait to the last minute if they RSVP.  Based on your other comments though it sounds like you already know they are flakes so I would not count on any of them.  Any idea why they always flake?  It is prob. too late for this now but maybe you could invite some oher people who you think would actually come out?

I am sure people to start calling soon. If not, your host can also send emails to the invited. My host said she would rather do this instead of calling everyone. I have no objections.
