Best Delivery Hospital???

How do you find the best hospital to deliver your baby?  I live in St. Charles so I was looking at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters since it is 10 minutes away.  I've heard that St. Joseph's has had bad reviews but they were not specific.  I've read good things about MoBap but I wasn't sure if I wanted to drive 25 minutes.

 Confused?!?!?!

I started with the doctor first. I found someone I really liked, and I will deliver at the hospital that she is affiliated with. Luckily she is with St. John's which I hear is a great place.... and have fairly new birthing suites.

    Good luck!!

Thanks thedaphney.  My OBGYN is Evelyne Schuetz and she is affiliated with St. Joseph and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters.

I would talk to her then and ask her which hospital she prefers?? Good luck.

Most hospitals offer free tours.  I would tour both of those places and go from there.  I didn't consider either of those since my dr. was not affiliated, so I can't help you with any advice.

I toured two hospitals and picked the one that best fit with what I wanted and expected. You can then search for a doctor that will deliver at that location. I am delivering at MoBap and I am very pleased with the doctor I picked as well.

My OB will deliver at St. Clare (Fenton) or MoBap.  Haven't decided yet, I'm waiting until I'm either in labor or when we're scheduling an induction or c/s to check what their visitor policy is.  When I had DS, I delivered at St. Joe's (had choice between St. Joe's and MoBap).  MoBap just seemed too much "get in, have your baby, get out".  St. Joe's (which St. Clare's replaced) just seemed more mellow and personal.

ETA:  St. Joe's in Kirkwood, don't have experience with the other location.

Mine will also deliver at St Clare, Mo Bap or Barnes. We are choosing St.Clare. Like PP said, I felt Mo Bap was more " come in, have your baby, get out!"

I got a good impression from MOBAP. They are progressive in laboring techniques, you and baby maintain the same nurses during your stay, and the baby can room in with you. Not sure about the rushing you to leave part others have mentioned. You stay between 2-4 days depending on your birth situation and your insurance.

i'm delivering at Progress West in O'Fallon - everyone I know who has delivered there has been really pleased. Because it's not as big as the other hospitals yet, you get more personal attention.

I delivered my son at Barnes St. Peters and plan on delivery baby #2 there as well. I loved it! You definitely get a lot of attention and the suites are awesome.

You should also research the level of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit your delivering hospital has. I know that no one expects there to be problems with delivery or with your baby but it does happen and you should know that your baby is going to receive good care.

I LOVE my doctor and so I asked where he has rights to work?  Well I then asked which hopsital he preferred and he said St. Lukes in Chesterfield, so that is where I will be delivering my LO.  I also knew 5 other mommies who delieverd there including my sister and they all wonderful experiences and the birthing suites are nice and big!

I have no experience with their maternity ward, but I had a couple of stays at St John's last year due to a car accident I was in (spent 2 weeks and 3 surgeries on the trauma ICU and then had a fourth surgery a few months later and spent that time in the PACU and ortho floors) and honestly I wouldn't go anywhere else if I had the choice. I have nothing but good things to say about the place. The doctors are phenomenal, the nurses are wonderful... Even the hospital food is above average! LOL

I live over an hour away from St Johns so right now I am planning on delivering at a local hospital but I am not ruling out St John's either, since with my existing medical problems, I will most likely end up being high risk. St Luke's is awesome too... my husband had a back surgery there a year and a half ago and that hospital is top notch too.

I plan to deliver at St. John's Medical Center.  But I am sure that there are many good hospitals out there which work better for where you live.  SJMMC is my choice because if baby needs neonatal specialists they are all at the same location, no transfers necessary!
