How do you put LO down for a nap in a big kid bed?

Oh dear, ever since we switch to a big boy bed/room naps have been hell. ?First we rock, then we lay down together, then we rock again, then he has quiet time, then he cries cause I left, then I go back in and we rock more, then he passes out. It takes an hour to an hour and a half to get him to sleep. ?I used to just put him in his crib and he play for .5 hour and then he would go to sleep and sleep for 3 hours, sometimes 4. I KNOW he still needs the nap because when he misses it he is a bear and when he takes it he still sleeps a long time. ?

So, how do you do it. ?I need to figure this out before the baby comes. ??

  • When Ava started sleeping in a big girl bed, I told her it was time to rest and that Mommy would sing a song, and then turn out the lights and she had to go to sleep.  If she got out of bed, I would put her in the pack n play.  I never had to put her in the pack n play - it was enough of a threat to keep her in bed.  No problems.  I will probably do the same thing with DS, but he's still in a crib at 2.5 and I really don't have any motivation to move him - he loves his crib and sleeps really well there - plus I don't have room for another twin bed in their room.
