H1N1 has hit my town with a vengence

We have 2 middle schools in town.  Today there are 450 students absent form one and 278 from the other. 

Now, I can guarantee that some of the kids with flu like symptoms really have a cold or stomach bug that is going around, but still...even if 1/2 are flu cases that's a boat load in one weekend!

Natalie's school has been hit hard too and she woke up with a raging fever this morning. bleh.

See, the vaccine would have been awesome if they actually had it out in time.  Everyone is already going to have had the flu by the time we get the shots!

Sounds like some kids are using it as an excuse and playing hookie. That is a.lot of kids to be out on a Monday.

My first thought when I heard those numbers was that an awful lot of kids stayed up to watch the Yankee game last night.

that's what I keep saying!  Did they close the schools down to disinfect them?  I'm not thrilled that my kids are spending all day with other germy kids, but if they were in middle or high school I'd be freaking.  Trading desks every hour just grosses me out this flu season.  I'd probably make my kid be the dork who brings Clorox wipes to school to wipe down their desk each hour.
