I am so confused on H1N1...

So my sister got the H1N1 flu mist vaccine...because she works in a hospital w/ ICU patients. The Infectious disease Doctors & ICU nurses told them they should not be around (w/in 3') small children (at least w/out a mask) for 4 days. And since we're under 49yrs old they told her we need to get the mist (AKA the live virus) & not the shot.  I guess if you are over 49 the chances are you've already been exposed so a shot would be OK as a booster. So what the hell am I supposed to do since DH, me & the older 2 girls should get it because we have a baby under 6mo in the house? Should DH & one girl get it & me & the other get it 4 days later (when we can)? How am I supposed to care for (nurse) my baby & not be around her for 4 days? I can't pump worth a ***. My head is gonna explode...

  • You are supposed to get the shot. At least that is what I was told to get.

  • Honestly, I would not get it at all- mist or shot.

  • I work for a hospital and at our hospital, everyone is getting the shot NOT the mist.

I didn't want to but the more I read the more I am scared not to...the idea of any/all of my kids w/ really high fevers, puking, crapping & me getting sick while taking care of them is honestly my idea of HELL.  I have no experience w/ high fevers to speak of...Win had one once & I went to the ER--I am really, really scared of them since my friend ended up dying in the ER when that was her only symptom before hand.  I don't have family in town to help either & I just could not deal w/ it.  Plus M is so little I am really afraid that she'd get very sick & I wouldn't know it was so serious until it was too late.  Basically I am scared not to, all the health people I talk to say to do it & w/ Win in school I fell like there is a good chance she'll pick it up at some point.

  • You can get the mist- I think that is the point.  But you probably shouldn't given who you live with.

They are probably trying to encourage healthy adults to get the mist because there is (relatively speaking) quite a bit of mist available, and all the high risk people can't take the mist, so it is available for the general population.

  • I can't get the mist. I just looked it up. Our county is only offering the mist, and they don't recommend it for anyone with a chronic health condition. My asthma means I have been searching for some place to get the shot. (I'm not in the health care field, but I work in hospitals or clinics every day.)
