Please tell me the Spike the big dinosaur is a waste of money.

My Ds eyes it every time we go into the store and we have to watch the demo. In the end I think the novelty would wear off after a day or so and then I would be stuck with a $130 piece of plastic. Anyone have it? Did your kids play with it alot? Do you regret the purchase?

  • I'm so glad my kid is afraid of that thing. No way I'd spend that kind of money on something he'd play with for a week, tops.

  • I see them on Craigslist a lot so I think kids get bored with him.  Maybe you could buy one on there.

  • It totally is.  You would be much better off spending your $130 on a train set, those cars that shake and go (my friends boys play with those 60 hours a week), or a bunch of melissa and doug puzzles and play food.
  • total waste of money....my MIL got Michelle the dog...golden retriever thats similar to Spike.  She got bored with it in less than 3 days...Its sitting in the corner collecting dust.

  • Oh yeah, he sits in Will's toy closet untouched.  Colossal waste of money.

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
  • Mine is played with everyday.  My 3 y/o and my 1 y/o both LOVE it the most of all their toys and have had a sustained interest in it since last Hanukkah
  • Ours is actually played with regularly, even though I let the batteries die all the time. Since we got rid of our dog, the kids act like Spike is now our new pet. We've had him for a year and they feed him and brush his teeth almost every day. They put him on a leash and drag him around the house, they dress him up in clothes. The still love it... sorry.

  • My son plays with his all the time. Moreover, all the kids we know want to come to our house for playdates so they can play with Spike. There were a few months where Spike was forgotten about, but he has been back in rotation for about 9 months nonstop. I almost wish he would get sick of Spike...asap!!! :o)
