I think ds is getting h1n1 shot tomorrow

I just found out they are doing a clinic in our town. I think I am going to get it for ds because he is in a daycare. I see no reason not too, although I do see many people on this board who won't get it. I'm curious- why not?

  • I have the same question.  I would like to see some legitimate articles against it, other than the "it's new".

  • We are going tomorrow morning. I'm getting it (because I'm pregnant), ds is getting it and my mom is getting it (she works in healthcare/medical). They start at 9:00am, but we will be there about 45 minutes early. I'm expecting long lines.

I have read that the seasonal flu vaccine is "new" every year too (and not tested year to year - it's impossible to do so). The strain of the seasonal flu is always different (so they say). I really don't see the difference between the seasonal flu (with it being a different strain every year) and the H1N1.

  • I am jealous - no one in MA has it yet.

I also read that had H1N1 hit 6weeks earlier this past spring that it would have been included in the regular Flu shot. My oldest has H1N1 (caught it at school), my DD got vaccinated today and DS#2 will be vaccinated next week at his allergist due to his egg allergy. I truly do not understand all of the hype.

  • Good luck.

Around here people are getting to the clinics and forming long lines hours before they even open and there's a very limited supply.

Honestly, if you have no issue with the seasonal flu shot, you shouldn't have an issue with the H1N1. Made exactly the same way, plus there was MORE testing on the H1N1 vaccination. The seasonal flu shot is new each year and undergoes no testing.

Some people don't believe in vaccinating for seasonal flu, though, so it makes sense why they wouldn't be on board with vaccinating for H1N1. Honestly, if we didn't have young children, none of us would get either vaccination.

That said, we did get H1N1 already, earlier this week, at a clinic. The line was LONG and we got their 30 minutes early. Our clinic was out of doses halfway through the scheduled time. Go early and prepare to wait in line.

  • Our state doesn't have any yet and like another post said, I'm not waiting in line for hours to maybe get one.  They don't think our main supply will be here until December.  I am not in a hurry for me or DD to get one because they don't know the side effects.  Once I see what it does to other kids, then I will consider it.  That is just my opinion.
  • I'm going to wait in line tomorrow to get it with DD, and maybe DH,so far they are only giving it to pregnant woman, and children between the ages of 6months and 24 months. But I'm hoping because DH works in the medical field they'll give it to him. DS had the mist yesterday, he's doing fine, jsut a little runny nose. They will start at 9am, I'm getting there at 7:30.
