One just opened here and I was reading about how there were traffic issues in the area because of the long lines the restaurant had. What is so special about it? I've never been to one and don't understand the hype.

Re: Someone explain Sonic to me please
WHAT??? A Sonic opened near you?
There isn't anything REALLY special about it, but it's fun for the kids. They have car hops who come to your car, have a million drink specials (non alcoholic). I am really surprised they have one in MIchigan.
haha! One opened in Troy, BUT one is opening in White Lake next week. They've been talking about traffic control in the paper and it got me curious about the restaurant.
The car hops sound fun. We may have to go check it out!
The food is just average fast food IMO and I grew up eating it. Their french fries suck, the tater tots are usually good.
It's really about the drinks. Slushes in traditinoal sno-cone flavors or made with apple juice or cranberry juice. You can add any of the flavors to any type of soda too, so if you want a cherry diet coke or a cherry sprite they take the regular soda and add the cherry to it themselves which has a stronger flavor than a diet cherry coke from a bottle, or you can get something odd like a chocolate dr pepper or blue coconut sprite (called an Ocean Water) or whatever combo you can dream up, you can get it. Plus the limeades - diet cherry limeade is a fave of mine. And then they have "happy hour" from 2-4 everyday when the drinks are half price.
My favorite Sonic snack in college:
Tator tots with cheese melted on them, dipped in Ranch.
We go every Monday night after L's soccer practice. We do like it, but we only go every Monday bc it's the only place between here and church (where she plays soccer) that we like. I think the food's better than avg., but unless you go $1 menu, I think it's a little expensive. We love the drinks and we are known for making dessert runs there quite a bit in the summer, i.e. sundaes and Sonic Blasts I'm a sucker for those mini-banana splits! They're just the perfect size! lol.
Oh man, in high school I used to get tator tots with cheese and ranch all the time! yum.
