Flying Question regarding carry-on

Hoping someone may know the answer to this question.  My mother-in-law will be flying out over the weekend and only taking a carry-on.  She has her pills in a presorted pill container.  Is this ok or should she keep them in the prescription bottles? I have scoured the internet and can't find a concrete answer to this question.......hoping maybe someone may know an answer. 

Also,I know the 3-1-1 rule for liquids - but can you take a small bottle of hairspray (do they even sell them small enough)? She asked me and I mentioned it just may make more sense to buy a bottle once she landed.

All prescriptons have to be in their bottles with your name on it. Over the counter stuff can be in a pill box. If they sell hairpsray in less than 3oz she can put that in her ziploc baggie of liquids.

No aerosol even in a 3oz bottle (if they make them that small).
