Cleaning/sanitizing soft toys

How do you clean and sanitize soft toys? Some say do not put in machine, and some I can't because of music/lights in them. Keira's favorite toy is a soft firefly that plays a song and she threw it on the floor at a restaurant and I REALLY want to wash it. But it will get ruined in the washing machine.

What do you do? Also, stupid question:

How long will germs stay "alive" on toys?

I try to throw everything in the wash. Otherwise I also use that Clorox spray. On the cloth parts I used a washcloth and hot soapy water and wash it with the damp washcloth and let it air dry.

If it's something that can't be machine washed, I tend to wipe it or scrub it with a Clorox or Lysol wipe. And let air dry from that.

Ohh I will try that. Thanks! I will pick up some Clorox spray tomorrow but it's a wipe for now. I never thought of that....

Put it in the freezer overnight. Germs can't survive freezing temps.

For non musical/electronic plush toys, I wash them in the washing machine, even if the tags say surface wash only. I let them air dry. So far, they've all come out fine!

I have heard freezer for 24 hours. I am sure if she can't live without it during the day overnight will be fine.
