Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS ladies, please come in

Hi, I hope everyone is doing well today!  (I'm sweating bullets in my office since these swarms of ladybugs/beetles aren't letting anyone in the office open windows...ughh! And it's a warm day)

I have my first RE appointment on November 5th.  My OBGYN said that the RE may recommend Clomid with an injection (not sure what this is?) and IUI.  I've done Clomid and luckily I do ovulate on the lowest dosage of 50mgs.  I've also already done the HSG (clear tubes) and u/s (PCOS).

I just wanted to know what I should be expecting?  I assume the first appointment will be lots of questions and stuff but as for likely treatments I'm unsure.  I guess I'm just one of those people that likes to know what's possibly coming her way.  What's the injection like and how is the IUI done?  Thanks!

Re: PCOS ladies, please come in

  • I have PCOS but haven't done any clomid or injectibles yet.  I've found that soulcysters.com is a great pcos website.

Have your Drs talked to you about treating the pcos with metformin?  You might want to ask why they are going straight to injectibles vs trying met.  I'm not saying one is right or wrong, just might want to understand their thought process.

Has your DH done an SA yet?  I would make sure that has happened before you do anything else or take anymore meds.

    GL to you!

  • I have PCOS and so far I've only been treated with Clomid and Metformin.  Since you say you respond to Clomid, they might start you off with small steps.  Whatever they wind up doing, I hope it won't take you long!

On a side note, I have to say WOW, your wedding was gorgeous!  I love everything - your dress is especially pretty.  The colors, the details - it looks like it was a fantastic day!

  • Your husband should have a SA done before doing anything else, your RE may run some more tests for you as well, like FSH. I have never had the injectibles with my IUI's but what it does is helps to release your mature follicle(s) or LH surge and an IUI would be done after this happens.

With an IUI cycle (with/without meds) you are monitored by taking blood and u/s daily/every other day to find out when a LH surge is detected then once that is determine, the IUI would be the next day.

I don't know anything about PCOS but why would your Dr. prescribe Clomid without running all the regular tests first?

  • The injection is probably an HCG shot (usually the brand name Ovidrel). It triggers ovulation.

I will definitely ask about Metformin.  My RE may certainly decide on another path of treatment for me.  It was OBGYN that mentioned that injectibles might be an option.  Yes, Dh did have an SA which was normal.  Thanks for the soulcysters.com site!

That's very sweet of you to say!  Thank you.  I'm going to google Metformin now Smile

My DH has had an SA - it was normal.  I didn't include that on the OP.  So with IUI you have to go to the RE every day or every other day?  Yikes!  Well of course I'll do whatever needs to be done but I'll have to figure out a flexible work schedule for the time being.

As for my previous doc recommending Clomid without tests...I know ::shakes head::!  I have since switched doctors because of the great information I learned on GP.  My previous doc did CD3 bloodwork which, according to my current doc, suggests pcos but they never told me that.  She just put me on Clomid after that blood work and sent DH for the SA.  She had actually recommended 4-6 Clomid cycles unmonitored!  I did 2 cycles and then wised up and switched doctors.  My current doc is the one that sent me for the HSG and U/S right away and then referred me to the RE.  Thank God!
