I've had it. People keep losing weight and I find it. Sparkpeople does nothing for me. I need a kick in the ass. It's time, I'm ready. I need to take care of me now.
So. Suppose a fatty has 100 lbs to lose. (Yes, I'm coming out of the closet. I'm five feet tall and weigh 210. It's disgusting.) I was thinking about going back on my gestational diabetes diet - no pop, little to no coffee, lots of water & tea, lower carbs, smaller portions, etc. Or is WW easy to keep track of.... ???
Can we say mortified that I've gotten to this point? Oh yes, yes we can.
Re: weight loss girls
Weight watchers has always been the thing that worked best for me. I can't do it on line though. Sadly, the truth is that I need to feel accountable to that scale. If someone else actually sees the number every week, I feel like I have to stick to it.
And are you sure 110 is a realistic weight for you? i had set that as an original goal the first time I did weight watchers. When I hit 130 I was in a size 2 and they were starting to get baggy. I'm only 5' 2" (almost). It's all about body shape. (I think my boobs weigh 15 lbs alone)
Of course right now my over 160 lb ass does not reflect any of the work I did in the past!
I highly, highly recommend WW. I do it online when not pg but I have a lot of willpower. My mom and SIL go to meetings because they need the accountability. My SIL has lost over 80 lbs on WW and she looks FANTASTIC.
And to start, I would set your goal higher, like 130-135. When you get there if you want to set a new goal then you can, but then you aren't feeling like you are NEVER going to get there.
My SIL just set 10% goals at first so that she kept reaching her goal and didn't have to set a number right away.
WW helps figure out portion sizes, and makes you realize how much you're actually eating. I did it after DS was born and it helped a lot. BUT, i found that it was a PITA. I thought i was eating 'ok' before but i found out i wasn't.
I now will eat a yogurt with granola for breakfast instead of a "low-fat" muffin. And i'll have a salad with chicken or fish for lunch instead of a sandwich. But then they're times when i go out and have a big plate of nachos or a cheeseburger, or 5 slices of pizza and a few beers or glasses of wine. Its just finding the right balance. I still have a glass of wine almost every night with dinner and sometimes more when the kids go to bed. But if i had a healthy eating day, it all works out to me. I'd rather drink than eat.
I've done WW and it's not for me, too much tracking for my crazy life. I know it's great though and I know plenty of people who have succeded with it.
I am now doing what you mentioned, going back to the GD diet. Lower carbs, more protein, multi small meals thoughout the day if possible.
So far, so good.
I love drinking my points. Its what I do every weekend.
In case you wanted to know, 35 points is equal to: 11 Blue Moons, 3 1/2 bottles of Prosecco, 3 pina coladas and 17 Rum and Diets.
I love WW. It worked so well for me. But I liked the fact that it was all mathematics and adding up the numbers to come out to the right total. I'm a nerd that way.

I am pretty cynical about WW. One of the first questions they ask at meetings is "who has joined WW before?" They make a lot of money when people DON'T succeed. Plus, a study showed that people lost and kept off an average of 6-11 pounds on WW over the course of two years. Most people who go to WW need to lose more than 6-11 pounds, so in the end, they are not keeping off most of what they lose. And when you figure out how much you end up spending per pound, it's ridiculous.
I've lost about 80 pounds, but I have a lapbad -- the only thing that has ever worked for me. Obviously I don't recommend that for most people. Based on current research, the "diet" that works for most people is one that focuses on lean protein and quality carbs like fruit, veggies, and whole, high fiber grains. Cut low quality carbs like sugar, pasta, white rice, etc. Cut soda, high sodium stuff, fast food, junk food.
The "formula" that works for me is that if I eat less than 1500 calories a day, and work out at least 3 times a week, burning about 400-500 calories per workout, I usually lose a pound a week.
WW is awesome!
I'm 5'1, and started WW last January 22nd at 184. Last Friday, I weighed in at 135.8-3.8 lbs from a healthy BMI, and 5.8 from my initial goal of 130. When I get to 130, I'm going to maintain to get lifetime, and then reevaluate my happiness with that weight. As of now, I'm thinking I'll go lower-closer to 115/120.
It won't happen overnight-but you can definitely get started and see a visible difference in just a few months. I hit my 10 percent in two months!
Good luck!
Aw, please do not feel embarrassed. (sp?) I am 4'11 and weigh 156... I have GOT to lose!!!
Unfortunately, I do have diabetes and PCOS. Losing weight is very difficult.
I try to follow the diabetic guidelines as well as I can and watch my carbs. But, I find it so hard when I am running after Pearl and the dog and my husband. I find myself skipping my insulin, not eating regularly.
Spark has not been doing it for me either. I find it too rigid and I just do not have all that time to record everything.
Go back to your diabetes diet... my endocrinologist has said that a good diabetes diet (or mediterranean diet) is great for everyone.
Good Luck!!!
