See the dr or not???

My DD is home sick today. She has a low fever that is responding to motrin. She occasionally coughs or sneezes but nothing excessive. She was saying that her throat was a little sore, but I don't really see anything looking red or infected. When the motrin wears off she is generally miserable but then easily remedied with another dose. She is sleeping and eating. And of course, she is 5 so she is fully and in everyway capable of telling me when something is wrong.

I am not generally the type to run to the dr but I am super-paranoid about H1N1 for myself b/c I have a rare-autoimmune disorder and the Dr wants me to be super paranoid. Under different circumstances I would totally not go to the dr for this because I know rationally that they are not going to treat anything.

Someone smack some reason back into me. Pls.

  • Yes, considering your condition, please go to the doc

  • I would think going to the doctor is going to expose you to more germs than just staying at home with your DD. From my understanding of H1N1, it usually has a pretty high fever? I could be wrong though. All I know is I took DS in for his 2 year well child visit this week and there were so many sick people at the doctor's office that I am surprised we didn't catch anything just being in there for an hour.
  • I would at least call.  DH has a low fever, aches, cough, congestion, etc.  His doctor said it was flu, but didn't specify H1N1.  My OB automatically put me on Tamiflu since I've been exposed.  His doctor did call in a script for Tamiflu, but said to fill it if his fever continued to rise (right now it's at 100/101).
