Trying to Get Pregnant

NGPR: Deployment basket

Since you all had great suggestions last week for Autumn in making her pregnancy basket I figured I would ask you all for ideas of what to put in a basket/ care package for a friend who is being deployed to the Mid East. His party is this weekend and the ideas I have so far include:

sunglasses, suntan lotion, chapstick, deck of cards, dice, stamps, gum, Gatorade/Powerade

Any suggestions? TIA!

Re: NGPR: Deployment basket

  • Those are good.  Depending where he is stationed, I would say a cheap pair of flip flops to wear in the shower, and some hand sanitizer.
  • Kraft Dinner, a book, maybe a mixed CD (or are those passe now in the iPod world?), a picture of home
  • Loading the player...
  • Regular lotion

    favorite candy

    underwear (for fun)

pictures of loved ones, maybe framed

  • This sounds awful, but my cousin made me send liquor in a mouth wash bottle. ?Little stress relief. Probably not the most wholesome suggestion! ?:)
  • Baby wipes are a must!  Sometimes it's the only shower these guys will get for weeks on end.  Definitely some snacks, batteries and maybe a magazine or something?
  • When one of my friends/co-workers was deployed, he asked for any kind of just add water drinks (coffee, crystal lite, etc.).  He lives/works in St. Louis, but was deployed with a group from Illinois.  So, he also really liked getting Cardinals gear!

Additionally, there are some international calling cards that you can get for people here to be able to call over there.  We got them for my friend's wife.  They both appreciated them.

  • Are you giving this to him at the party?  When DH deployed he wasn't allowed to pack much so you might want to save it and mail it to him.  They all really like getting mail too.  I sent DH lots of ramen noodles, spaghetti o's, hormel instant dinners, canned fruit, fruit snacks, little debbie snacks, gum, mints, hand sanitizer, air freshners for his room, and lots of random stuff from the $1 section at Target.  If you do try to send booze it is pretty easy to hide it in fruit snack boxes.  I would send small bottles (put them in zip lock bags) and carefully unseal the box, repack the fruit snacks around the bottle, and then glue it back together.  My DH wasn't in a high risk area so it wasn't a big deal if he drank (even though it was against the rules).  Also, the post office has boxes specifically for the military.  They are flat rate - I believe $10 and you can put as much as you can fit in them.
