Parenting after a Loss

Any bad reactions from

the Hib and IPV vaccines??  Ava got them yesterday (against DH's wishes) and she seemed to be doing fine until he got home from work (of course) and picked her up-she screamed unconsolably for 2 hours straight.  DH was soo upset with me!  The pedi told me there would be no side effects from them and that they were "easy" shots...if that's what he calls easy, I'm terrified to vaccinate her again with the ones that could cause fevers!  DH won't help at all with her either since he didnt want her to get them to begin with.  Luckily my mom happened to be ni town (she lives 7 hours away) so she was able to calm Ava down since I couldn't.  How am I going to do this alone next month??

Re: Any bad reactions from

  • First of all tell dh to get over it. His little girl is uncomfy for some reason. It might not be the shots. It could've been the stress of seeing the pedi or she could just be uncomfy from gas. Who knows? Maybe she just wants love from her father. Sorry this really bothers me.

The only vax that M had any reaction to was the MMR vax and then she got a rash, but no fever.

  • I wouldn't think it would be specifcally from those shots.  Some babies get fussy after shots.  When Allie got her 6 month shots, she screamed for about an hour that evening...

  • Nope, EC didn't even get the fever that she had at the 2 month shots.  She was a little fussy but I chalked it up to the stress of going to the doctors and getting the shots, not what's in the shots themselves.

Tell DH to get over himself.  Vaccines are around for a reason.  I'm glad your mom was in town.

  • Two hours of fussing is better than bacterial meningitis, IMHO.

  • Sorry. That was a b*tchy response. I am sorry you had a rough evening. DS cried for 6 hours straight after his first set of shots, so I can relate. Shots are no fun. But I've seen many of the illnesses that they prevent and that is exponentially worse for everyone involved.

No, I didn't think it was too b*tchy!  It's been hell in my house for the past 4 months because of this vaccine debate-he's agreed twice, came up with an alternate schedule that he's comfortable with and even made us switch pedi's to one about 1/2 hour away as opposed to the perfectly good pedi 5 mins from my house...all so he would feel more comfy about vaccinating, and now he changes his mind AGAIN!!  I felt kinda bad, but I just said to h*ll with it, I'm vaccinating her...he wasnt happy but I don't care anymore!  Thanks for the support ladies, it's nice to be supported by SOMEONE. Sad

  • Devan is traumatized by the whole process of being at the pedi, getting shots, etc.  she just needs to be consoled and loved unconditionally afterwards.  they get over it if you can help make them forget about it.  some people give their kids tylenol before they go to help with the pain.  I never did and she has never gotten any fever after receiving any shots.  next month you will be alone and you will do the best that you can to get thru it.  its not worth getting worked up over something you have to do and is in the best interest of your child.  if you need someone to support you then you may want to call a friend or plan to have your mom there with you.
