I love the name Marley, or Marlee Jane, but everyone I have said this too (including my husband) says that the first thing they think of is Marley and Me, the sad movie where the dog dies. Thoughts?
I actually think of the character Marley from Another World first... oh how I miss that soap. Anne Heche was the actress who played her (and her twin sister Vicky).
Then I think of Marley and Me. Marley is a very common name for yellow labs these days.
Even so, if you're going to use the name, I still think it's better to spell it with the "y".
Love the name...had a good friend in elementary school who spelled it Marlie...Of the two spellings, I like Marlee Jane...so cute!
I have to agree... I actually like the "Marlee" or "Marlie" spelling better than the "y". This name is actually on my list of names. I liked it before the dog movie came out, but there was a little girl in a Will Smith movie named Marley. Who cares if people are naming their dog that... seems like there are no boundaries for pets these days. I know someone who has a dog named "Kevin".
Re: Marlee or Marley
Agreed.
I'd spell it Marley. And I think of Bob Marley.

Bob Marley, then Marley and Me.
Spelling it Marlee wouldn't change that--it would just make it look misspelled. It's a cute name, despite the obvious references.
Agree. Spell it Marley, 100%
1. dog movie
2. Bob Marley
Too many associations, imo.?
(read it. you know you want to.)
