DD ate chips cooked in peanut oil and didn't have a reaction!

We ate at Jimmy John's tonight (yuck, IMO), and had chips with our sandwiches.  DD was munching on chips when I glanced up and saw that it says right on the front of the package, "Fried in 100% peanut oil."  I about died.  I grabbed the chips from her and frantically started wiping her face and hands and made her drink some tea.  She didn't have a reaction, thank goodness.  I don't think I even had the epi pen in my purse.  I hope this is a sign that she's growing out of her peanut allergy!

  • That's great news! Allergies are so scary and awful.

Your sig pic is GREAT! I love it. However, the writing under it made my heart drop. I am so sorry for your loss. My birthday was the day before yours. Hoping this is a great year for both of us! HUGS

  • That is great, but don't let your guard down.  I've read that most peanut oil is so refined that it doesn't contain peanut protein in it, which is what most people are allergic to.
  • Can you get it retested?  I know neeser's malia has a three hour peanut challenge coming up.

  • Nora hasn't ever been tested, but she did have a bad reaction when she was 10 months old.  She probably should be, but I'm reluctant to put her through it.

Don't worry, I won't be letting my guard down!

  • Not to burst your bubble, but some people with peanut allergies aren't allergic to the oil, just the protein. DS is severely allergic to peanuts and ate chicken cooked in peanut oil. No reaction, but he still tests positive for peanut allergies. The protein and the oil are two different things.
