Suggestions for regular flu vaccine

My pedi's office has been out of the regular flu vaccine for almost a month now and has no idea when they will get more.  We call almost daily to check with them and they now just have a recording that says "As of today, we do NOT have any seasonal flu vaccine".  Grrrr!  I'm not even asking for the elusive H1N1 at this point!!  Do any of you know if there are alternate locations, i.e. pharmacies or something, in the Dallas area where you can get a regular seasonal vaccine?

I'm probably going to be laughed off of here for this, but I had to ask...

Re: Suggestions for regular flu vaccine

  • Not sure about Dallas but Tarrant county is completely out of it (for under 2) I've been calling daily for weeks.  They have no idea when it's coming in.
  • I had the same problem and my Pedi recommended that we take G to the Lewisville Health Dept to get his. My DH took him last Friday and was in and out in 20 minutes.

  • Our pedi ran out as well and after calling every Walgreens and CVS I could find by us they did not have the vaccine for kids under 3. My DH ended up taking DD to the Tarrant County Health Department in Watauga a little over two weeks ago.

  • Where in the Dallas area?  Dallas is so big.  Are you in a suburb of Dallas?

    Go to www.flucliniclocator.org

It'll give you a list of clinics in your area.  You will want to call ahead though and see if they have the pediatric shot though.

     Hope this helps.

  • Hi - I am in Murphy but I am pretty much ready to drive anywhere.  Thanks for the link and the suggestions!
  • Random enough, I know that my parents got their flu shots a few weeks ago at Costco of all places. I think that most of the pharmacies like CVS or Walgreen's also have some type of flu shot programs, but I am not sure what the availability of the shot might be like for them right now. I actually got mine at my OB appt. this morning and she didn't even act like they had been having a problem getting it.
  • You may also want to try Tom Thumb (there's one off 190 in Garland) and Kroger (in Sachse).  They both do the Flu shot.  Something though that I have come across...a lot of the places only have the adult vaccines.  Hope you're able to find one for your daughter!!

  • I just went to Care Now and got ours - it was $20 and they didn't ask for insurance, but if we'd gone somewhere else, insurance would have paid, but honestly, I just wanted it DONE. ?I also got my kids done there too - they don't do preservative free, though. ?I called the CDC to find out about the process of making preservative free flu vaccines and it turns out that the preservative free flu vaccine IS made with preservatives early on in the process and enough of it dissipates (but not all) so that it can be considered preservative-free, but there are small traces of the preservative still in it... and in the regular one, sometimes the amount of preservative is so low that it could be considered preservative-free... so I asked my pediatrician if it was okay if I did the regular for both kids and he said it would be fine.

    That was our experience... ??

  • ours ran out a week before c's scheduled appt and they're not suppose to get more until mid nov. the flu mist just came in so we're going in on thursday to get that.
