Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Weaning Questions

I've decided for a variety of reasons that I'm stopping breast feeding. I'll still pump over the coming weeks and lessen that, so DS will get some breast milk for another month. I'm pretty proud for going this long considering I work full time and have been pumping at least 4x a day.

DS is great with bottles and only nurses 2x day on average. He nurses a ton at night still, but we're working on cutting that and doing some sleep training.

My question is, how long should it take to wean him off of those feedings? Honestly, I feel like I could just give him bottles for those two right away and he'd be fine. It's more at night that he's attached to nursing vs. bottle, but has always been fine with having a bottle even if I'm around.

Re: Weaning Questions

  • sounds like there isn't much weaning to do since he takes a bottle already.

  • the sleep easy solution has the best night weaning section of any sleep training book.  It gives step by step instruction on how to BF night wean and bottle weaning.  GL
  • I've always wondered this too.  She takes a bottle so well, even from me, I could probably quit cold turkey and she wouldn't blink.
  • I took 3-4w to wean completely. It was more for me than her. She would have been fine with an immediate switch, but I wasn't. I cried every night feed for the last week, because I knew it was coming to an end. I never got engorged or sore. I wore a tight sports bra the last 3 days or so, and I think that helped.
