Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you give your LO pasta?

If so, when did you start, what kind, and how do you serve it? Like with something on it?

  • We haven't gotten to the finger foods...she's not ready yet.

  • 7m, I cook it in chicken broth for flavor and nutrition. If I am supah lazy I get Campbells Mega Noodle soup. Now she does tomato sauce, pesto, alfredo, whatever.

What kind/size of pasta? She loves finger foods, so I'm just trying to think ahead.

  • I just gave her some today. I was making myself bowties at lunch, so I cut a few up into quarters and put them on her tray (just plain, with nothing on them).

  • We buy whole wheat or veggie "crazy" pasta (alphabet or little spirals). I just cook it and he eats in plain. Or I'll mix it in with a homemade veggie puree.

Sometimes I'll get crafty and mix some corn or peas, some veggie puree, a crumbled turkey meat ball and some noodles and make a "casserole." ?He's been eating noodles for at least a couple months.

  • I like the spirals the best, easiest for her to handle.
  • We started around 8mos I think- elbow macaroni, spirals, shells.  If they're big, I just cut them in half.  I usually flavor it with butter and garlic.  She LOVES lots of garlic.

  • Yes, spiral type or penne type typically.

I usually add a little tomato sauce with a mild puree (green beens, for instance).  Ground beef is easy for your little one to grasp as well.

I totally 'splurge' on pasta as my toddler loves noodles.  I buy organic ancient grain or whole wheat.  I also overcook the pasta for both kids.  I make it soft and easy to eat.
