BF - is this normal?

My DD most often only wants to eat off one breast and that's it.  I offer the other one, and she gets really mad.  Is it normal that she only wants one at a time?  I alternate each feeding to keep my supply equal.

Re: BF - is this normal?

  • I nursed my daughter that way for 13 mths and now I'm nursing my son the same way.  I think it makes no sense to nurse on both sides at each feeding.  =)

  • I've always done just one side per feeding for both my kids. Nursed DD for 14.5 months that way, still nursing DS.
  • I've actually heard that some LCs advise to only nurse one side at a time because then baby gets the hindmilk which is calorie and fat laden and also balances out the lactose in the foremilk which can cause too much gassiness if they don't get enough hind milk.

As long as she is having 6-8 wet diapers, pooping just about every day and is gaining weight, I wouldn't worry about it.

This is exactly why I've always only nursed on one side per feeding.
