Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Handling LO's newfound movements

Hi Ladies,

This is a semi XP from 3-6.  I only got 1 answer over there and perhaps it's because there weren't alot of smiliar ages to answer this question.

My DD has started sitting and rolling and everything else, which is wonderful!  Especially wonderful because she has hip dysplasia and has been in a full body brace since 8 weeks old; so we're ecstatic that she's keeping pace with babies her age!

My question is: what do you do to keep them safe when they're on the move (i.e., falling backwards, forwards, sideways!)?  My DH has created a quasi baby-pillow jail now, but she's always going to the outer edges.  What do you, or did you, do for you LO during this phase?

TIA.

Re: Handling LO's newfound movements

  • Well, we have carpet, so I'm not sure what your floors are like. But we set DD down with pillows around her and let her do her thing. Sometimes she falls over but she lands on blankets/pillows so it isn't a hard fall.

Of course, my DD is really sturdy sitting up on her own, so if your LO is still wobbly, lots of pillows around him/her should do the trick.

  • We have hardwood, and she's smacked herself a few times pretty darn good!  We put down 3 blankets, but they're kinda thin, so it still sounds like hell when she falls!  But thanks, that's what I was thinking - baby pillow jail is the best for now.
