Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Should I worry?

Baby is sick but has always slept on his back. He's not swaddled anymore but he never slept well without the positioners so he had them until tonight. He's started sleeping on his side now and rolling all over so obviously the positioners are pointless. The house is good temp so he doesn't need any blankets or anything and he's in comfortable clothing but I still worry that he's going to get into a bad position or something where he can't breathe. I imagine this is normal but just need some reassurance or maybe some info on how your LO sleeps. Seems like a silly question I guess.

Does your LO sleep in all sorts of positions? Do you worry or are they safe as long as they can roll over on their own in both directions?

Re: Should I worry?

  • DS just recently started sleeping on his stomach because he rolls over at night. I was worried at first too but I asked on here and they said it was ok.

  • Haha that's funny because DH did exactly what yours did. He turned him back onto his back and within 5 minutes LO was back on his side. :P

  • No. There's a lot of fear-mongering surrounding sleeping on stomachs, and it amazes me the levels of hysteria that it creates when there is no real known reason for SIDS. Your LO is at an age where, not only is he past the majority of any SIDS risk, but even the SIDS researchers would reassure you that he can sleep any way he chooses to.?

DD has been a tummy sleeper since 6 weeks of age (probably should have been before that, but it didn't dawn on me to try it out). ?

  • oh no.. sorry ryan has a cold. we just leave our DS alone when he rolls over. i assumed he was allowed since he can roll both ways etc. hope he feels better soon!
  • Em has been sleeping on her stomach since she learned how to roll.  So for sure for the last 3 1/2 months.  So far she's ok.  And half of the time when I go to check on her she's got her face smushed into the matress.  She can roll and sit and stand and crawl so she's good.
  • DS is a very active sleeper too and will sleep side, tummy or back, usually a combo of all.  I don't worry about it because he can roll over and stand up just fine.
