Baby Names

What do you think of these

I think we have settled on names ...finally.  We are on team green so we have to have two names.

For a boy - William Hayes and calling him Hayes.  William is DH's middle name and Hayes is a family name that runs in my family - but no one is called Hayes.

For a girl - Madeleine Elle - and prounounce the first name as Mad - a - line.

Re: What do you think of these

  • I like them, except the spelling of Madeleine.  That "e" after the l seems pointsless. And your DD would FOREVER have to correct people.  Evne if she spells it for them - I can guarentee people will forget that E.

Madeline is the normal spelling.  Adding an extra "e" just guarentees that it will forever be misspelled.

Madeleine is the French spelling, so it is normal as well.

  • Like them both very much!!  I have a cousin Madeleine and it's such a great name.
  • I think they're both cute.
  • I like both names. I think of Madeleine as the more "correct" spelling (though I know they are both legit) and I prefer it to Madeline, personally.

William Hayes is handsome! Have you considered just naming him Hayes William since you're going to call him Hayes anyway?

  • I really like both of them... but my only concern is with Hayes sounding like "Hey!" so when you say his name a little loud it sounds like yelling.   Weird, but that's one way I see if a name works -- it has to be easy to yell!

This exactly.  Take it from someone who never got her name spelled right when she was little, never found anything with her name spelled right on it, consider going with the everyday spelling. Just a thought, it's your baby, you get to choose!

  • I think both of those names are nice. I'm not a huge fan of Hayes, but it's okay since it is a family name.

I really love Madeleine, especially pronounced as Mad-a-line. I think either spelling is fine. As pp have mentioned, Madeleine is the traditional French spelling.

For the boy, I personally would probably use Hayes William. I just think it is a little confusing to not go by your first name, but that's just me.

  • I like both of them, and prefer that spelling of Madeleine!  Nowadays, I find that most people ask how to spell ANY name, because of different spelling variations, so I don't think your child will have any harder time.  In fact, someone over the phone just asked how my husband spelled his name.  Uhh, his name is Adam.

This is why my parents named my sisters and me the way they did. I always have to spell my name, but my last name was not the "right" spelling either (and who's fault is that?) And now that I'm married, my last name is a conventional spelling, but I still have to spell it because people want to make sure they heard me right. So I say, why not? You're not buying every pencil, pen, and magnet in creation just because it has the kid's name on it.

  • Love William Hayes. ?Love it.

HATE Madeleine no matter how you spell it. ?It's SO popular (Madison too) and I just gag whenever I hear of another Maddie. ?Even if you don't know any now, you will when your kid goes to school, I promise. ?

  • Not a fan of Hayes, but I love family names so I give it Yes.

Don't like Madeleine regardless of the spelling. It's really overused. There are a million Maddies running around.

  • I like both, but also wonder why you don't name him Hayes WIlliam if you are going to call him Hayes??
  • We will not be calling her (if it's a girl - Maddie - it will be Madeleine)  I think William Hayes sounds better than Hayes William - IMO
